The Other

“The Other” is a series of paintings on cardboard, created over approximatively three years. It is composed of three parts and contains numerous pieces.
The series is based on subjective elements. In “The Other”, we face the analysis of subjective images created using destructive working manners; as if the image came out of history and became contemporary. “The Other” explores the inside; and the elements, figures and destructions of different layers inside. Each layer can have its proper spontaneous narration. “The Other” is in us; in an eternal dialogue with us.
In “The Other”, I have tried to develop a new painting process on cardboard, with an eclectic use of different working manners: as if all the elements came out of the destruction of color stains, finding form and identity. Colors, surfaces and lights composing elements define their structure, based on the underlying color. This is repeated multiple times to yield the final image.
“The Other” is the result of eclecticism of different pictorial spaces, each bearing an atmosphere, an element, a narrative or a situation. In the other, we face a dialogue between two or more frames. We look at a pictorial spaces from different angles, participating in the nesting of its different components.
“The Other” is the border between movement and waiting; entanglement and separation. I have tried to exploit different possibilities of the pictorial space and the painting medium to obtain such a visual atmosphere.
As the series is totally composed of subjective images, I have tried to use working manners disposed of an internal, anachronic and unknown quality. As if each element entered our world at the moment, being introduced to the pictorial space. Thus, I aimed at a creation process with similar characteristics: different and unknown.
In “The Other”, each frame is created independently. But at the end, its existence is identified by the placement of other frames by its side. In fact, it is this other that takes part in its identity, confronting a redefinition of its position and status.
